Lesson 7 – V: Voyage into Volt: How Do We Match Solar Supply to Energy Demand in a Mini-Grid?

Having the Solar Energy That Is Needed

Does having solar panels automatically mean you have enough energy?

Imagine a school has lights, fans, and a charging station. Now imagine someone says, “That’s okay — we installed solar panels.” That sounds good, but an engineer still has more questions to ask.  Things like:

  • How many loads are there?
  • How much energy do they use each day?
  • How much energy can the panels really produce over a day?

These questions matter because a system can make electricity and still not make enough electricity.

Think About It

Why might a solar system still fall short even if the panels are working properly?
